In Minnesota, Aaron Rodgers and Richard Rodgers combined for an incredible touchdown. No really, take a look (h/t Aaron Nagler):
But aesthetics aside, it was also the first touchdown pass for the duo. And, as you might have noticed, the pair share the same last name. Rodgers/Rodgers are now the 8th set of players to have the same last name and combine for a touchdown pass. In reverse chronological order:
8) Rodgers/Rogers, on November 23, 2014.
7) In the 2008 season, Shaun Hill and Jason Hill combined for two touchdowns while playing with the San Francisco 49ers.
6) In 2007, Tom Brady threw 50 touchdown passes. Two of them went to Kyle Brady.
5) In 2002 and 2003, Brad Johnson and Keyshawn Johnson became the most prolific set of Johnsons, combining for nine touchdowns while playing with Tampa Bay.
4) You probably know quite a bit about the 2002 Bucs, but did you know that the team’s backup quarterback was Rob Johnson? He also threw a touchdown pass to Keyshawn that year.
3) Rob Johnson had some Johnson love when he was in Buffalo, too. In 1998, he threw a touchdown to tight end Lonnie Johnson.
Note: Keyshawn wasn’t Brad Johnson’s first Johnson, either. In 1997, he scored with his own Johnson against Carolina, when Brad both threw and caught a three-yard touchdown.
2) Playing for the 1985 Saints, Dave Wilson and fullback Wayne Wilson combined for one touchdown pass.
1) In 1972, the Giants had their own Johnson connection: Randy Johnson threw three touchdowns that season, but two of them went to running back Ron Johnson.
Finally, a couple more notes of self-love. In 1960, Frank Ryan apparently pulled a Johnson, throwing a 37-yard touchdown to himself. Anyone care to learn more about that one? And in 1944, Roy Zimmerman is credited with pulling a Johnson/Ryan, too, throwing a 15-yard touchdown to himself.
