Believe it or not, Marques Colston and Brees have connected for 72 touchdowns, tied with Philip Rivers and Antonio Gates for the 5th most in NFL history by any receiver/quarterback combination. I’ve written about that streak before, but here’s something else unique to consider: Colston has never caught a touchdown pass from anyone other than Brees.
Entering the 2015 season, only five receivers had at least 30 touchdown receptions and caught all of them from just one player. The second-highest total belonged to Brees and Jimmy Graham, but that ended in week 1 of this season. The fourth-highest total was owned by Torrey Smith and Joe Flacco, but that ended yesterday. That leaves just Colston/Brees (72, including playoffs), Robert Brooks–Brett Favre (36), and Malcom Floyd/Rivers (31) (although Julio Jones and Matt Ryan also connected for the 30th time yesterday).
Tthe table below shows every player who had at least 60 receiving touchdowns (including playoffs) prior to the start of the 2015 season. Here’s how to read the table below, and all information is as of before the start of the 2015 season. Colston ranks 44th in career receiving touchdowns., and the man from whom he caught the most touchdowns is Brees. Colston has 72 career receiving touchdowns, and caught 72 of them from Brees. The table is sorted by the percentage column.
