The Cleveland Browns own the #1 and #4 selections in the 2017 Draft. Assuming the Browns don’t trade down, it means the franchise would be the first team to own two top-5 picks in the Draft since…. well, do you know?

Since 1950, only 16 other teams have had two top-5 picks. The 1994 Colts took RB Marshall Faulk and LB Trev Alberts, and 1992 Colts grabbed DE-DT Steve Emtman and LB Quentin Coryatt, the ’82 Colts drafted LB Johnie Cooks and QB Art Schlichter in the top five, the ’79 Bills drafted LB Tom Cousineau and WR Jerry Butler, the ’66 Dolphins took RB Jim Grabowski and QB Rick Norton, the 1965 Jets took QB Joe Namath and FB-LB Tom Nowatzke, the ’65 Bears took LB Dick Butkus and RB Gale Sayers (worked out pretty nicely), the ’62 Rams got QB Roman Gabriel and DT Merlin Olsen (the Browns should only be so lucky!), and ’61 Redskins drafted QB Norm Snead and DT Joe Rutgens, the ’58 Cardinals drafted QB King Hill and HB-TE-FB John David Crow, the ’58 Rams took DE-K Lou Michaels and E Red Phillips, the ’57 Packers took HB-FB Paul Hornung and E-TE Ron Kramer, the ’56 Steelers drafted DB-HB Gary Glick and DB-HB Art Davis, the ’55 Colts QB George Shaw and FB Alan Ameche, the ’54 Packers C-T Art Hunter and HB-DB Veryl Switzer, and the ’50 Lions E-FB-DE Leon Hart and C-LB Joe Watson.
The Browns, of course, went 0-16, earning the #1 pick in convincing fashion. But Cleveland also traded last year’s #12 pick to the Texans — a pick that turned into Deshaun Watson — for the 25th pick in last year’s draft (Jabrill Peppers) and Houston’s 2018 first round pick. And since Houston had a disaster of a 2017 season (a when-healthy Watson, excluded), the Browns also ended up with the fourth pick in this year’s draft.
