The end of 2017 was a pretty busy time for me, so I stopped the game scripts data after week 15. Under the philosophy of late than never…

There was one really notable result: the Texans got destroyed and still finished with more runs than passes! Houston was sacked 7 times, so Texans quarterbacks recorded just 17 pass attempts (excluding sacks) against 28 rushes. This marked just the second time since 2010 that a team threw 17 or fewer pass attempts despite trailing by at least 17 after each of the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th quarters.

Obviously week 17 is a weird week in the NFL. The 49ers blew out the Rams in a meaningless game, but the Game Scripts from some of the other games were more meaningful. The only real “upset” from a Game Scripts perspective was Tampa Bay coming back and knocking off the #2 seed Saints. Jameis Winston had an up-and-down game, with three interceptions but also a game-winning drive. We’ll see if Winston is in line for a big 2018.
Coming up soon: a full analysis of the 2017 Game Scripts data, along with postseason results. What else do you want to see?
